RANGE SAFETY RULES

Please take a moment to read the following range safety and range rules. It is your responsibility to understand and follow these rules at all times. If you observe anyone not following the rules, please advise them accordingly.

1. When handling a firearm always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

2. Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until you are on-target and ready to shoot.

3. Every firearm should ALWAYS be considered loaded.

4. On the range, do not load your firearm until you are ready to shoot or at the command of the range officer.

5. Before anyone moves forward of the firing line, all firearms on the firing line must be laid on the table, muzzle pointed down range, slides open, magazines out, cylinders open and empty. The range officer must visually check each firearm on the line before calling the line safe and giving the command to move forward to change targets.

6. When shooters are forward of the firing line, all other shooters and spectators must stay behind the safety line, clear of the firing line bench. NO HANDLING OF FIREARMS IS PERMITTED AT THIS TIME.

7. A loaded firearm is not permitted anywhere on the range except on the firing line, and must NEVER be left unattended.

8. Before you hand someone a firearm for inspection, remove the magazine, if present, open the action, and make certain the chamber(s) are empty and then present it with the action still open and the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

9. Dry firing, inspection and repair of firearms MUST be done at the firing line bench or in a designated safe area. Live ammunition is not permitted in the designated safe area.

10. When two or more persons are using the range in non-organized shooting, the first person to arrive will assume the range officer duties or the range officer may be selected by the shooters present.

11. All persons on the range will fire, make safe, or move forward of the firing line ONLY on the command of the range officer.

12. The consumption of alcohol or of the use of any drug that is classified as a “controlled substance” if strictly prohibited while on club property.

13. No one is permitted to fire from in front of the firing line bench. This rule does not apply to IDPA shooting events, instruction conducted by an NRA certified instructor where the course calls for this kind of shooting, and law enforcement officers during a regularly scheduled shooting event. Law enforcement officers may shoot in front of the firing line not during a scheduled event but only when they are the only ones using the range.

14. Club officers have the authority to rule ”off the firing line” any person who is not observing safe firing line practices, or any firearm, which in their opinion is not safe to fire. Objections may only be addressed to the club officers and trustees at the monthly meeting.

VIOLATION OF THE RANGE SAFETY RULES COULD RESULT IN IMMEDIATE EXPULSION FROM THE CLUB.
